Oh what a day.
Decided to go home for the day, after persuading my Mam to cook dinner. Got about half way through the 45 mile drive and the accelerator started making a funny clicking noise. The temperature gauge hit the red. I knew this wasn’t good, and planned to stop in the next parking bay at the side of the road.
I didn’t get that far. I slowed down approaching a roundabout and the car completely conked out on me. It would not restart whatsoever. So I did what all independent and self sufficient women do... I rang my dad. After putting my hazard lights on I then had to stand on the little island thing that separated the lanes joining and leaving the roundabout and wave like a crazy women at passing cars, shouting ‘go round, go round’ to cars pulling up behind mine. Apparently the hazard lights on their own didn’t give it away. How embarrassing.
All this, for nearly an hour in the rain and freezing cold. Quite a lot of people did stop to ask if I needed help and one nice woman gave me her umbrella, which I shall post back to her.
My friend was nearby visiting family, and after texting her my predicament she showed up to keep me company until my dad arrived. I was busy explaining what had happened to my Dad, and didn’t notice that the ex-friend and her new pals passed my car, went round the roundabout at 2 miles an hour with their necks craned at the window, and then spotted my friend parked across the road, who had a little rage and rang me to inform me.
At least then I was able to wait for my car to be towed in the warmth of my Dad’s car while he took over directing traffic. I was totally soaked through, I smelled like wet dog.
It could cost about £500 to fix. Gutted.
3 hours after breaking down I finally got home, and picked up my dinner in a takeaway tub, to reheat when I got back. My friend was coming through anyway to give another friend a lift to the train station, so she brought me back. Now I’ve got to last without a car for the next week.
