A few week ago I wrote about a date I had with a really nice guy. He went away for a few week but we were going to meet the weekend before last when he was due back. We kept in touch via the odd text message here and there, but his return was delayed as there was a problem with the bathroom he was fitting for some friends - the wrong toilet had arrived so he had to wait nearly a week for the right one to be delivered. Eventually, he returned from his trip and we arranged to meet on sunday for lunch. I cut short my Wii playing (see previous post) and headed home from my sister's house to get changed for lunch. On the way home, I got a text to say he couldn't make it as he'd been in a car accident the night before, and was feeling a bit stiff from whiplash.
Whatever happened to 'I just want to be friends', 'I'm not ready for a relationship right now', and the various other cliche excuses that I have heard (and occassionally used myself) in the past. Ok, so it's not that I don't believe him -surely he wouldn't make something like that up - but this whole thing just feels like a non-starter to me! I understand that he had an accident and didn't feel up to meeting, but it just seems to be one thing after another. Our first date was supposed to take place a couple of days earlier but again he cancelled on the day as he had to go see a friend. Yet he insists he definately wants to see me again, and its not like he has any reason to lie but he's not really making much of an effort!
Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect him to stick to our date when he was injured, but maybe a phonecall? A more definate rearrangement than suggesting we 'catch up next week'? Just something a bit more than an apologetic text. And I'm not demanding. I'm not high maintainance, I don't need a guy to be in constant touch and see him all the time, especially when I've only met the guy once, but it would be nice to see a bit more effort here. Just a reassurance that guy's wouldn't rather drive into a road side barrier than go on a second date with me.
I'll keep you informed, but its not looking good. Oh well, who needs dates. I can always pass the time in the gym swooning over my toy boy.
